We are a family business and we provide friendly, high quality, timely service.
We are known to bend over backwards to meet your needs, and our technicians
often put in very long hours for our customers. We would like to introduce you
to the faces behind the phones and the technicians that will service your RV
needs.
Gordon and Esther Pannell are the founders of the business. They live
in Brickerville, and have six grown children; eight grandchildren & one
step grandson. Esther originated in South Jersey, and is the youngest of
12 in her family. Gordon is home grown in southern Lancaster county and
is the
middle child of 6 in his family. Gordon and Esther are 7th day Sabbath
keepers, which explains why the business offers no service on Friday evenings
or Saturdays.
They also celebrate the Biblical festivals, which explains why the office
is closed on various holidays that leave callers clueless of what holidays
they are.
Gordon is our senior technician, and Esther is the office manager.
Quality Matters got it’s start in 1999. Esther was managing an RV rental
business when she realized that the hole in the RV industry was “Who
is going to fix them?” There were plenty of businesses that were selling
them and renting them, but the wait at the dealerships for repair services
was four to six weeks back logged. Each time an RV came back from a trip,
it had a variety of problems that needed to be resolved before it could go
out on the next trip. That is where Gordon entered the scene. When he came
home from work each day, he was greeted with a list from his wife of all the
problems that needed fixed before morning.
Gordon got to a point where he enjoyed doing RV repairs better then the work
he was doing for his employer. He and Esther put their heads together and
decided to scope out the market for a mobile repair service. They canvassed
a few campgrounds and learned that there was indeed a need for mobile service.
They pulled the back seat out of an 88 Grand Am, bought some tools, spread
around a few business cards and made some phone calls. The phone began to
ring immediately. They were in business. They had some learning curves that
first trial run summer. But they knew immediately that the Grand Am was not
the vehicle for the job. They purchased the first step van and Gordon set
up his “Toolbox on Wheels” That winter, 1999-2000; they attended
the RVIA technical training school and Gordon received his certification.
In April of 2000 he quit his job and went full time as an RV service technician.
By the end of 2002 Gordon and Esther were so busy they needed to consider
hiring another technician and putting another truck on the road. They spent
the summer of 2003 hiring various guys they hoped could do the job. By the
end of the summer, they had concluded that there was no one out there that
could meet all the requirements of the job. Until John Lefevre stepped up
to bat.
John Lefevre is married to Gordon’s oldest daughter, Jean. They
live in Quarryville. John is a talented singer and guitar player. His first
experience in campgrounds was to travel around as the entertainment on
weekends. John and Jean have two children: Samantha is an amazing dancer.
Johnnie is
the most ornery and cute boy you ever did meet. Jean works for the Post
Office.
And John; well John is the best thing that ever happened to Quality Matters.
John has surpassed all expectations. He is the back bone of the business due
to his ambition, his drive, his excellent workmanship and his broad range
of expertise in all areas of the jobs requirements.
John joined the business in late 2003 after taking a voluntary lay off from
his job to find out what the RV business was all about. He was such a fast
learner that he was sent to the RVIA technician training school that same
winter and passed the certification test with only two months of “hands
on experience” under his belt. In 2004 the company incorporated, becoming
Quality Matters RV Repair Inc. John joined QM Inc. as a full time employee
in April of 2004. Since then he has built up the territory, extending it into
the southern end of Lancaster county, and even into Maryland and Delaware.
